TRAUMA THERAPY • EMDR • NERVOUS SYSTEM HEALING
Insight Isn't the Problem.
Your Nervous System Is.
You understand where your anxiety, protective patterns, and relationship patterns come from. But when stress rises, your nervous system still reacts as if the past is happening now.
Why Insight Alone Isn't Enough
Understanding your story matters. Lasting healing happens when your nervous system learns the danger is no longer happening.
A Different Approach to Healing
You're not coming to therapy because you lack insight. You're coming because, despite understanding your patterns, something still isn't shifting. Healing isn't about trying harder or talking about the same experiences over and over. It's about helping your nervous system experience safety in a new way.
I'm Marisa Tuncali, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker specializing in trauma therapy for adults. I integrate EMDR, Progressive Counting, Flash Technique, and parts-based therapy to help clients process trauma at its source—not just manage its symptoms. Together, we'll work at a pace that feels safe, collaborative, and grounded in your unique goals.
Healing from trauma is deeply personal, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you're beginning therapy for the first time or returning after years of trying to make sense of your experiences, my goal is to help you feel understood, supported, and empowered to create lasting change.
Whether you're seeking weekly therapy or a focused trauma intensive, my goal is to help you move beyond survival mode so you can feel more present, connected, and confident in your daily life.

How I Help You Heal
EMDR Therapy
Trauma isn’t just something you remember, it’s something your body continues to hold.
EMDR helps your brain and nervous system fully process distressing experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
After trauma, it’s common to feel pulled in different direction self-criticism, anxiety, or shutdown.
IFS helps you connect with these parts with curiosity and compassion.
Progressive Counting & Flash Technique
Not all trauma work needs to begin with direct exposure.
These gentle approaches help reduce distress while maintaining a sense of safety and control.
How Therapy Creates Change
Trauma-focused therapy is designed to help you move beyond understanding into real, embodied change Through weekly sessions or more focused, intensive work, we address the patterns held in your body and nervous system so change doesn’t just make sense, it actually lasts.

Yes. I currently accept Aetna and BCBS insurance plans, and I also offer private pay options. One exception is therapy intensives, which are offered as private pay services due to insurance limitations on extended-session formats. Please feel free to reach out with any questions about coverage, benefits, session fees, or out-of-network reimbursement options.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma-focused therapy approach that helps the brain process and heal from distressing experiences that may feel “stuck.” EMDR therapy is commonly used to support individuals experiencing PTSD, trauma, anxiety, childhood trauma, abuse, panic, and overwhelming life stress
EMDR may be helpful if you feel emotionally triggered, anxious, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or impacted by painful past experiences that continue to affect your present life and relationships. My approach to EMDR-informed therapy is collaborative, thoughtfully paced, and tailored to each client’s individual needs and goals.
Therapy intensives are extended therapy sessions designed to provide more focused and immersive support than traditional weekly therapy. Intensives can be especially helpful for individuals working through trauma, PTSD, anxiety, childhood trauma, sexual assault, abuse, or major life transitions who are looking for deeper therapeutic work in a shorter period of time.
EMDR-informed therapy intensives may allow clients to process experiences more continuously and with greater momentum than standard 45–60 minute sessions. Intensive formats may include 2-hour sessions, half-day intensives, or full-day intensive sessions depending on each client’s needs and goals.
Intensives may be offered virtually throughout Massachusetts or in person in Newton. Because insurance typically does not cover extended-session formats, intensives are offered as private pay services.
The first therapy session is a chance for us to get to know each other and talk about what’s bringing you to therapy. We’ll discuss your current concerns, important life experiences, relationships, stressors, and what you hope to gain from therapy.
My approach is warm, supportive, and trauma-informed, with an emphasis on creating a space where you feel comfortable, heard, and respected. The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, learn more about my approach to therapy and EMDR, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
